According to figures compiled by The Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois, Inc. (MLSNI), sales of single-family attached and detached homes in the northern Illinois and Chicagoland area jumped sharply in February 2002, increasing almost 26 percent over February 2001 levels. A total of 6,939 homes, worth $1,543,198,905.00, changed hands between February 1 and February 28, up from 5,502 homes worth $1,139,698,932 during the same time frame in 2001. The average sales price per unit rose to $222,395, up from $207,142 last year. Single-family property types include detached single-family houses; condominiums; townhouses; and multi-unit structures (2, 3, and 4-unit dwellings).
